If you are meeting someone for an interview in person, remember every single thing matters including:

A lot of people write to the interviewer thanking them for taking out the time or asking for feedback. Unfortunately, it can lead to additional waste of time for the person reading the email.

Do not follow up with the hiring manager unless there is no recruiter available.

Following up several times with hiring manager can give the impression that you are desperate as a result of which you lose all the negotiation power

See if they are writing content on LinkedIn or Twitter. here you can go ahead and share your POV or recommendation that adds value. This is a great way of building rapport.

Learn how to build a professional portfolio and showcase your projects in it. 

In the past, you may have wondered: Why is LinkedIn even important, really?

For context: Hamsini, a GX member landed a role after the marketing head of a company saw her LinkedIn profile! This is the power of a fully optimized LinkedIn. 

Add a professional profile picture. It should be front-facing, slightly smiling, with a flat background. Preferably, get your image shot at a studio. Won’t take you more than 15 mins.

Don’t add selfie/ cropped image out of group photo/ old photo from 2010.

 item — the first thing someone sees even before they land on your profile so make sure it is reflective of your professionalism!

 design- preferably with the branding of your current company. This helps to highlight brand loyalty and professionalism.  Avoid putting up quotes, random thoughts or something that gives a ‘want to be’ vibe.

The headline needs to be very crisp. Add your current role and company. This is what you want to be known for. Remember, this is the first thing audience sees even in LinkedIn search results. Don’t be a wanna be - “I’m on a rocket ship” But if you have sold your company to Disney, do write.

If you’re open to relocating to another city for work - set that city as your primary location on LinkedIn. It helps people connect with you and initiate conversations.

The Featured section helps you to highlight your posts or samples of your work, and is an 

 approach to demonstrate your knowledge and skills.

The first three lines of your about section should create curiosity and intrigue. Only if you are able to get the reader hooked here will they click on see more. The about section should not sound sale-sy. It’s the story you want people to relate, recall and remember you by.

You want to get recommendations only from someone you’ve worked closely with or someone you’ve deployed projects with.

Get recommendations from someone who adds trust to your place, not someone who borrows trust. Which means, it should ideally be someone who is senior to you or is currently working in a leadership role — this way their recommendation adds more credibility to your profile.

Open your notes and list down people you want to seek recommendations from. Once you have more clarity, start reaching out to them.

A lot of people who are new to marketing feel like they can't break into the field because they lack relevant experience. Think of yourself as a product. The way you would brand a product is how you create an identity that is reflective and predictable of your values, behaviours, style and actions.

Effective personal branding helps you stand out from the competition while building organic trust and finding the right opportunities.

Before getting started with setting up your personal brand, identifying and understanding your goals is extremely important.

Your goal will dictate the direction in which you need to steer your personal brand.

This involves ensuring that you have your basics right: having a good light source, a good camera, and a good mic. 

Also, ensure you have your one-liner introduction pitch ready. The idea is to keep the other person engaged with you. Talk about exciting projects or topics relevant to your career by communicating impact points (ideally numbers). 

Your career trajectory is also crucial here as you cannot make a personal brand into a professional one if you don’t have one or two craft experiences a few years ahead of someone else.

Your online presence is the fastest way to accelerate the reach of your personal brand. Here, based on your goal (hire people, get promoted, get hired), tweak your profiles based on what you want to be discovered for.

Is it your company? Is it your domain? What do you think will make people click on your profile? Is it your designation your display picture, or a post that you wrote some time ago that is relevant to a role you are hiring for/applying to? Make changes accordingly.

Well, if I had to give a one-liner for this round, I would say

That’s right, you will be asked questions from your 

 under various situations from left, right and centre! Sounds fun, right? No? Hmm…

Let me break it down for you. So, when you interview for a Product or Growth position, 

they often do behavioural rounds to get a glimpse of your past experiences, your personality and your behaviour in certain situations

. The whole point is to figure out what makes you tick, how you handle problems, what drives you to work and to see if you're a good fit for the role. They'll ask you questions about real-world situations to see how you handle them, and this gives them a better idea of your capabilities and whether you're cut out for the job. This is super important because you'll be working with tons of different teams and stakeholders.

A sample question would look something like this:

If you google, behavioural round questions, you will get hundreds of results. But, what you need to understand is that all of these questions will mostly come under three types.

Culture-fit rounds: What interviewers evaluate

What tactics do you use to optimize the marketing funnel for better conversion rates?

Talk about analysis first. How you would analyse each stage of the funnel to identify the scope for improvement. Then, talk about strategies including A/B testing, personalised messaging, automation, etc. Try to talk about something different from the common ones to stand out from the rest of the candidates. Then mention the metrics including conversion rate and other secondary metrics based on the strategies. You can also use an example from your previous experience on how you have done this before.

Can you give an example of a successful demand generation campaign you've managed?

The framework to use here is the STAR format. Give enough context about the campaign objective, target audience and channels used. When you talk about the strategies implemented, point out the creative elements, collaborations, how you prioritised, etc. When you talk about the results, mention the metrics that were moved and also tie them back to the campaign objective. Good to mention your learnings/any challenges as well.

How do you stay up-to-date with the latest demand generation trends and technologies?

Talk about your go-to content space for industry news. Also, give examples of any recent industry that fascinated you. Good to mention how you adopted a new trend for any of your projects and what kind of impact it created. Also, mention how you network and connect with industry experts and how talking to people also helps you stay up-to-date with the latest trends.
